I just finished listening to a terrific radio documentary (via podcast) about The Hejaz Railway.
The railway was commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid and was meant to connect Damascus to Mecca. If you've ever seen , Lawrence of Arabia it's the one Lawrence's blows up.
The line still runs between Syria and Jordan, connecting their respective capitals.
The three-part series is available as a podcast or in streaming audio.
